Every so often I come across a book that really takes me by surprise. This brilliant new book by Irma Boom for Chanel is one of them.
The pages of the book are completely blind-embossed – there is absolutely no ink on any of the pages, which is intended to mimic the wearing of a fragrance or cologne. As Irma herself puts it, like a fragrance, “you don’t see it but it’s there.”
The result is a minimalist book (here’s another one) that provides ‘readers’ with a more tactile experience than a visionary one.
If you want a copy, Chanel: Livre DyArtistes is available to pre-order from Amazon.
I’ve used blind embossing on a few of our brochure design projects, not as much as this though! It must have cost a fortune in production. A very bold and brave concept nonetheless.
Indeed. At least they saved money on ink though!
