About The Book Design Blog

The Book Design Blog is devoted to celebrating the craftsmanship behind beautiful books and publications. From self-published zines to commercially produced books and everything in between, we want to see it and share it.

History of the blog

The site was originally founded in 2011 by Paul Murray, a Manchester-based graphic designer as a means of showcasing and celebrating the beauty and craftsmanship of printed publications. It has since grown to include articles, reviews and interviews with industry professionals as a means of educating as well as inspiring. We hope to also be able to produce short documentaries in future.

Get Involved

We’re looking for illustrators, publishers, printers, bookbinders, typographers, lettering artists, zinesters, cover designers, anyone related to the book and publishing industry who is interested in sharing their knowledge or experiences with us and our audience. If you have knowledge that you think our audience of book nerds and design geeks would appreciate and be able to learn from, we want to hear from you.

What is “Booklover”?

Booklover is our sub-brand. It’s still in the early stages but we’ll eventually be using it to sell merchandise and goods such as our enamel pins. The end goal is to use the brand and our contacts in the publishing industry as a means of working with independent writers, designers, whoever, to help them create small runs of publications.
