These gorgeous, hand-bound books are part of an extensive letterpress project by designer and typographer Lucia Weilein.
Taking the first of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes short stories, Lucia set about creating 50 editions of A Scandal in Bohemia.
Each copy utilises a variety of printing and finishing techniques, including setting each line of body copy one 20-pica line at a time using an original 1957 Intertype Linecasting machine.
Finally the books are finished with cloth-covered boards, and a half-title foil stamped cover plate.
I absolutely love that end-paper pattern, as well as the ornamentation on the chapter opening pages.
A limited selection are available to buy so get in touch with Lucia directly if you’re interested in owning a copy.
