Sadly by Your Side

Sadly by your side is a curious project by Matteo Di Iorio and Claudio Fabbro that combines a book and an iPhone app into a means of distributing a music album.

The album in question is the debut of Davide Cairo aka Edisonnoside. Each track is split into three layers; harmony, melody, and rhythm, and each layer can be altered through the app, simply by pointing the iPhone camera at your surroundings. The app interprets the image as one of three colours, red, blue, or black, and adjusts each layer according to how much of each colour it “sees.”

The book provides a series of images that when “viewed” by the app, allows the user to listen to the tracks from the album. These beautiful images provide both a visual aesthetic to the album, and an audible one.

Be sure to check out the making of video, as well as a demonstration, then get the app and a copy of the book from Fabbrica.
